How to Actually See Patagonia: Don't Just Stay in Coyhaique.
Getting to know Patagonia is the dream of many travelers — the glaciers, the Marble Caves, Laguna San Rafael, the majestic Cerro Castillo, and endless attractions to see. But if you're not clear on how to plan your trip, chances are you'll feel like you didn't get the full 100% out of it.
That's why this post is here to share the main and best piece of advice we can give you: don't stay in Coyhaique the whole time!
The usual thing when you travel is to pick one city and move around from there, but here, Patagonia will always want you to move around a bit more. If you only take one-day tours where they pick you up at dawn and drop you back at your lodging, only to start again the next day, you'll end up exhausted, probably tired of riding buses, and a little frustrated with your experience.
While full-day tours are a great option, they shouldn't be what you plan your whole trip around.
Move around, arrange lodging in different towns, get around by car, backpacking, or by bus — or, best case, choose a tour operator who handles everything for you.
Also keep in mind that you'll have to come back to Patagonia! Unless you come for a huge number of days with an unlimited budget, there will always be somewhere new to discover. Pick your favorites from the list and build your trip around them.
